To Support, Promote, and Showcase the Creative Expression of the Young and the Disadvantaged

From entertaining young residents of a small Vancouver Island town with chalk drawings, to promoting child-centred art activities in Singapore, India, and Sri Lanka, Rough Diamonds (a non-profit agency) has taken on many different projects.

Over the past year our focus has been to promote the arts created by the young members of our community through showcasing the musical and literary talents through live performances as well as high quality recordings. Our 2009 compilation CD was launched on August 30.

Seeds of Rough Diamonds project were planted in 2000 with a proposal to the local school district and public mental health agency. The project began in 2001 as an afterschool art program, a place for free creative expression, for students in grades six to eight. Rough Diamonds ran in the fall and spring of each year in different schools for a length of eight to ten weeks. The program was supported for four years in the district schools.
